SAR Officers 2024.jpg

The new chapter officers for 2024 are sworn in at the historic Sherman House in Lancaster on December 12, 2023. Administering the oath is State Society President Don Miller. L to R: Bob Hill (President), Steve Conrad (Vice President), Curt Radabaugh (Chaplain), Mark Darnell (Registrar), Tim Mills (Genealogist), Franklin Boner (Secretary).

The purpose of the Sons of the American Revolution is .."to perpetuate the memory of those who, by their services or sacrifices during the war of the American Revolution, achieved the independence of the American People."  As a historical, educational, and patriotic, non-profit corporation, we seek to maintain and expand the meaning of patriotism, respect for our national symbols, the value of American citizenship, and the unifying force of "e pluribus unum" that was created from the people of many nations -- one nation and one people.

The Hocking Valley Chapter "Home" meeting place had been monthly at the American Legion Post 11, 279 Canal St., in Lancaster, OH 43130 for many years. But in December 2022 chapter members decided to meet formally only five (5) times a year, the second Saturday in March, April, June, September, and December. Generally, at least two or three of these meetings now occur in the Third Floor Conference Room at the Fairfield District Library, 219 N Broad St., Lancaster, OH 43130. Other meetings might take place somewhere else such as a historic site. Please consult the Upcoming Events page or contact one of the officers to confirm the date, time, and location of their next meeting.

About us firing muskets.jpg

Firing a musket salute at the Granville Patriot Grave Marking, hosted by the Hocking Valley Chapter in August, 2023. Honoring patriots of the American Revolution is an important part of our activities, restoring and marking patriot gravesites, researching patriot biographies, and utilizing color guard and musket salutes at ceremonies.

Classroom Teaching.jpg

Visiting a fourth grade classroom for a presentation on the American Revolution in November, 2022 at Licking Heights South Elementary School in Pataskala, Ohio. Teaching youth and adults about the War of Independence and our nation's founding is another important activity for members. Many of these presentations occur in school classrooms, at Liberty Camp, and other public events.
